Sudbury Public Schools is an asset to our community and one of the many reasons people choose to call Sudbury home. As a resident of Sudbury since 2006 with a child now in middle school, I am looking forward to bringing an independent, pragmatic, thoughtful leadership style to the school committee. Data, transparency, and open communication will drive my decision-making. I will use my experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets to ensure that all Sudbury taxpayers understand how their tax dollars are put to work in the schools, while also advocating for the needs of all SPS students.

What are the first two issues you would address if elected, and how would you address them?
If elected I will:
-
Leverage my experience in curriculum design and my insight from advising to 18–22-year-old aspiring scientists, entrepreneurs, physicians, and engineers to facilitate productive conversations between parents concerned about course tiering and consistency and L-S faculty and staff delivering an elite educational experience despite resource uncertainty; and
-
Use my extensive tutoring and coaching expertise to support educators who face evolving challenges as each year’s cohort of incoming students balances positive and negative aspects of their increasingly digital existences and navigates distinct lingering developmental consequences of a hybrid/remote COVID year.

What are the first two issues you would address if elected, and how would you address them?
I am the only candidate for LSSC familiar with the current culture and present experience parenting children through LS ( 5 kids graduating between 2013 and 2028) with two currently enrolled.
As a Finance Committee member (Chair for 5 years) and Town involvement for 20 years, intimate knowledge of LS and Town Budgets and the LS Regional Agreement will allow me to help keep LS on track financially.
It’s imperative that we maintain academic excellence and critical programs for students as we enter uncertain times with decreased enrollment. I offer experienced leadership skills and proven ability to improve organizations processes.

What are the first two issues you would address if elected, and how would you address them?
We face times of significant uncertainty regarding federal funding of public education and federal regulation of public education. Not only is direct federal funding at risk, but also indirect funding. When the federal government cuts funding to the states, the state must, of necessity, cut funding to municipalities. It will take extensive experience, hands on hard work and creative collaboration to address these issues. Having served twelve years on the LSSC and as chair of the LS Building Committee, I have the experience and extensive history of hard work and creative collaboration to address these critical issues.

Our property assessments need to be as accurate as possible, especially given an ever-increasing tax burden. In recent years property assessments have increased markedly. I will work with the Board and Assessors Office staff to ensure property assessments accurately reflect property valuations.
We need to be mindful of the burden of increasing real estate taxes. As a member of the Board, I will work to expand where possible eligibility requirements, and work with staff in making information available about tax exemptions, deferrals and tax relief programs, including the Senior Means Tested Tax Exemption, now in its 11th year!

What are the first two issues you would address if elected, and how would you address them?
Since joining the Trustees, I have had the privilege of working on a grant-funded local history project to learn more about Sudbury’s Indigenous history, a topic that has not received enough attention in years past. In my next term, I plan to continue guiding this project through the end of the grant cycle in September 2025 and beyond by exploring other funding sources. My second focus will be on continued support for the library staff in an era of disinformation and book/program challenges. Maintaining libraries as uncensored community information hubs is more critical now than ever.

I am excited to express my interest in serving as a Goodnow Library Trustee. As a longtime patron and volunteer, I have seen firsthand how essential the library is in Sudbury—not only as a resource for books and learning, but also as a hub that brings people of all ages together. I am committed to preserving its mission, ensuring its growth, and making strategic decisions to best serve the needs of our community, ensuring that the Goodnow continues to thrive for years to come.

The health department is responsible for addressing the many health needs of the community, and must respond to requests in a timely manner. Recent upgrades to technology infrastructure have improved response times. Permit renewals and site plan requests are fully online. However, increased septic requests due to building projects continue to require timely review by health inspectors. Unexpected public health situations must also be addressed before routine inspections, without causing undue burdens on residents or businesses. Ensuring qualified health department staff is critical.
An annual hazardous waste collection is a high priority to prevent illegal disposal in our community.

I am honored to continue to serve on the PRC to support the diverse recreation interests for all Sudbury residents. One of PRC’s top priorities is to advocate for appropriate funding support for the Department. We are very excited about our new Fairbank Community Center serving the needs of our seniors, school administration, Park and Recreation Department, emergency shelter, and voters. We are working on many projects including playground renovations, softball diamond renovations, improvements for outdoor recreation at Fairbank, and improved access to our fields for those with mobility limitations. I welcome the opportunity to talk with residents.

One of my priorities on the planning board is to continue to understand the changing requirements of Sudbury and promote thoughtful development with a high level of architectural and landscape standards that meets those needs while working with and preserving the historical and cultural resources, agricultural landscapes, and natural, glacial landscapes that Sudbury residents value.
Another priority is to collaborate with historical and cultural stakeholders to help redefine and clarify boundaries, regulations, and processes as described in the master plan to better preserve and shape features that are important to Sudbury’s history and character.

What are the first two issues you would address if elected, and how would you address them?
My focus is realizing the intentions of the Sudbury Master Plan which outlines Sudbury’s aspirations for protecting and supporting what we love about Sudbury while providing a roadmap for the future. Secondarily, focus on implementation of the action plan matrix for how the Master Plan will be executed, coordinating with multiple town departments, boards and committees to achieve shared goals.
Challenges are; balancing development and environmental protection. Managing growth while protecting critical natural resources, particularly water. Requiring the Planning Board to carefully navigate complex zoning, environmental concerns, and community desires for maintaining Sudbury’s character while allowing for appropriate development.

I will work to improve communication between the School Committee and our community. I will implement regular listening sessions to hear and understand voter concerns and will bring these concerns to the committee to be considered as we propose policies for the district.
Students educated through COVID suffered educationally, socially and in their mental health. We need to reinforce basic educational principals and re-evaluate the use of technology in classrooms. If elected, I would propose a review of the basic curricula taught in our schools and a review of all technologies used in the classroom, including the use of EdTech.
