Mary T. Stephens had her nomination papers (“signatures”) certified on Thursday, making her an official candidate for Sudbury School Committee, and making Sudbury School Committee the first officially contested race. There are now three official candidates running for two seats on the Sudbury School Committee: Karyn Jones, Silvia Nerssessian, and Mary T. Stephens.
Five additional people had their nomination papers certified on Wednesday, making them official candidates: Daniel Carty for Select Board, Joshua Fox for Board of Assessors, Megan Kelley and Eriko Frank for Goodnow Library Trustee, and William Atkeson for the 1-year seat on Park and Recreation.
Four people returned their nomination papers Thursday and are awaiting certification of their signatures: Jean Nam for Sudbury School Committee, Catharine Blake for Moderator, and John Sugrue and Stephen Garvin for Planning Board. Linda Huet-Clayton, who is running for Board of Health and turned in her nomination papers on Wednesday, is also awaiting certification.
Five people have not yet returned their nomination papers: Eric Poch for Select Board, Danielle Stackpole and Richard Thalmann for Sudbury School Committee, Robert Beagan for a 3-year seat on the Park and Recreation Commission, and Christopher Marotta for Planning Board. They have until Friday, Feb. 2 at 5 p.m.
To become an official candidate and appear on the ballot, those running must file an intention to run with the Town Clerk or L-S District Clerk, gather signatures of registered voters on their nomination papers, return those papers to the Town Clerk or L-S District Clerk, and then those signatures must be certified by the Town Clerk’s office. The deadline to file an intention to run was Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m.
